Vitality BMI — Common Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions
No — Vitality uses the same WHO/NHS-standard BMI formula (weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared) and the same healthy-weight range (BMI 18.5–24.9). The Vitality BMI check is usually part of their member Health Review and feeds into their Active Rewards points system. Our calculator gives the same numerical result, free and without a policy.
You need a Vitality policy to use their full Health Review, which includes the BMI check. Our calculator gives you the same BMI number for free without needing any insurance product.
Vitality uses the standard WHO/NHS healthy-weight range of 18.5 to 24.9. They sometimes reward members for staying inside this band as part of their Health Review and Active Rewards. We use the exact same ranges.
Absolutely. Many people use a third-party BMI tool to quickly check their score before logging it in the Vitality app, or to track interim measurements between annual Health Reviews. The numbers are directly comparable because both tools use the identical formula.
Vitality's Active Rewards programme awards points for completing the Health Review (which includes BMI) and for sustaining healthy lifestyle metrics. Points can be redeemed for partner offers. The reward structure changes — always check your Vitality member portal for current terms.
Vitality's in-app BMI check relies on the height and weight you self-report. A GP or pharmacist measurement uses calibrated equipment and is more accurate by a small margin. Our tool uses the same formula — accuracy depends entirely on how accurate your height and weight inputs are.
Choose ours if you don't have a Vitality policy, if you want extra tools (reverse BMI, child BMI, pregnancy BMI), if you prefer to check your BMI more often than the annual Health Review, or if you want a tool that works without an app download.
No — we're an independent UK health-tools site, not affiliated with Vitality or any insurance brand. We use the same NHS-standard BMI formula because it's the universally accepted clinical standard.
